After designing her first pattern, “Ansonborough,” for her son’s nursery in 2017, Katie Kelley Harris ("KK") launched her eponymous collection of of artisanal Belgian linens, chintzes and cottons — KK Harris — designing all of the original artwork and repeats. Her inspiration comes from many (often unpredictable) sources, including French design during the reign of Louis XIV, the elegance of the American Revolutionary period, hand painted antique earthenware, the English Arts and Crafts movement, fauvism, and the studies of eighteen-century female botanists. Employing a totally unique color palette of dusty pastel tones and vibrant metallic pigments, she is able to marry modern colors with traditional design to create a storied interior decor, referencing history while embracing progress. She likes to joke that she has “the mind of a preservationist and the heart of a modernist.”
