Penny Morrison

Ethnic Collection

Penny Morrison’s brand-new Ethnic Collection pays special homage to Penny’s favorite global aesthetics, celebrating the rich and diverse cultures around the world that have inspired her for decades. Weaving a complex web of histories and traditions, the collection showcases the exchange of ideas, imagery, and techniques across borders and oceans. Featuring an abundance of rich browns, sunny yellows, deep reds, sky blues, and strong greens, the collection uses color in a way that sings to ethnic inspirations while sitting harmoniously within the wider landscape of Penny Morrison fabrics, wallpapers, and accessories. The result is a cultural tapestry brimming with patterns, colors, and tales of time, drawing influences from Africa, Egypt, Morocco, South America, and India.

Ethnic Stripe

The Ethnic Stripe is at the core of the new collection. Coming in three colorways — Corsican, Red, and Kiwi — the design pays homage to some of the textiles and patterns across the world that have inspired Penny's work.

Totem Vertical Stripe

The other weave in the collection is Totem Vertical Stripe, which was inspired by patterns found in Ancient Aztec design. Bold and vibrant, the design is perfect for upholstery, its reversible nature offering a unified but textured look.

Ashok Wallpaper

Now available as a wallpaper, Ashok is one of the most timeless designs in the Penny Morrison collection. Featuring a vertical floral pattern inspired by Indian block printed motifs, the design represents Penny’s core design inspiration. It is adaptable to both masculine and feminine schemes thanks to its cleverly chosen colorways, which give the design a natural and pleasing versatility.

Lighting

Handmade from the finest porcelain ceramic and glazed in a selection of vibrant colors, the collection’s Pineapple Lamp Bases are an incredible example of exquisite craftsmanship, exuding the eclectic and diverse cultural inspirations that have been gathered by Penny during her years of global travel. The bases are particularly stunning when paired with Penny’s Tribal Lampshades, which are all made of natural Indian silk in rich, earthy tones in ten block-printed color ways.

Cusions

The design for the new Charu Embroidered Cushion was taken from a small clipping of fabric inspired by Mayan patterns, which Penny has reimagined into a sophisticated stripe featuring a warm color palette of rusty oranges and verdant greens. The cushion is backed with a screen-printed horizontal stripe in coordinating colors and finished with green linen tassels.

Complementing the Charu, Penny’s Shanti Embroidered Cushion was inspired by a piece of vintage silk embroidery. Made using screen-printed natural linen and finished with red tassels, the cushion makes for a chic centerpiece on a sofa or armchair.

Tableware

Last but not least, the collection offers a range of gorgeous new tableware. Starting off, the Palma Tablecloth and coordinating Palma Napkins were inspired by an antique hand-painted fabric from Morocco, featuring a graphic of a palm tree and coordinating geometric pattern. Made with a palette of rich ochres, warm browns, and ruby reds, Penny refigured the design into a bordered tablecloth, in which the palm trees meet centrally to ornament the table.

The Penny Morrison team also worked collaboratively with artisans in India to create a series of elegant and striking Silver-Plated Ice Buckets. Charming on a home bar or on the dining table, the smaller size is brilliant for filling with ice cubes in preparation for making cocktails, while the larger size is perfect for keeping wine bottles chilled for serving.

The final additions to Penny’s tableware offerings are her Ghanaian Woven Straw Table Mats a collaboration with artisans based in Ghana supporting women’s rights. The organization seeks to break the cycle of poverty by empowering rural women through teaching them essential skills: the intricate skills of weaving straw to create versatile and bespoke products for people all over the world.
